Selcuk is a district of Izmir, Turkey, home to the ancient city of Ephesus, Sirince Village, the House of the Virgin Mary and the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

Selcuk, with its well-preserved historical sites, is an open-air museum and was an important settlement in ancient times. Ephesus attracts around 2 million visitors a year and is an important tourist centre. The Selcuk Ephesus Museum is one of the richest museums in Europe and displays only local artefacts. The Isa Bey Mosque, a significant example of Seljuk architecture, is the oldest known courtyard and columned mosque in Anatolia.

The history of Ephesus dates back to the 6th millennium BC. Excavations at Arvalya and Çukuriçi have revealed early settlements. Finds on Ayasuluk Hill show continuous occupation from the Early Bronze Age to the Hellenistic period, proving that ancient Ephesus was originally located there. Hittite records refer to Ephesus as "Apasas".
